Alright here we go. Now Star Wars Episode VII is really real.
Yesterday’s announcement of J.J. Abrams as director of the next story in the Star Wars saga came with a general amount of surprise by most. So many directors have been mentioned (by me also) as possible candidates including Matthew Vaughn, Steven Spielberg, Jon Favreau and even Ben Affleck were in the running. But here is my official statement on Lucasfilm hiring Abrams to take over the world of lightsabers and breathing machines.
Look, a lot of directors could have worked well with the new Star Wars film if the script turns out to be very good. I especially would have loved Matthew Vaughn’s take on it but Abrams doing this gives me a general sense of hope and excitement. The guy helped create Alias, Lost and Fringe. He has directed the best Mission: Impossible (M:I 3), the wonderful Super 8 and took the Star Trek franchise and breathed new life into it and made it relevant for a new generation. The man has one damn impressive resume. You can not deny it.
There are rumors out there that the new flick may have a female lead and that some have been pushing for Kick-Ass star Chloe Moretz to star. If any of this is true I will be a happy camper. We have had six movies of male leads, how awesome would it be to have a kick ass female Jedi on screen (ahhh Mara Jade).
So to recap, nice job Lucasfilm. The weight of nerd worry has lifted a bit from my shoulders. Now let’s make a damn Star Wars movie!
I recently watched Looper and my review is up for consuming by your eye holes over on NerdRating.com. It is one of the most unique time travel movies made and should easily make its way to any sci-fi fans collection.
Django Unchained got reviewed by a lucky guy known as me over on NerdRating.com
Go check out my review and let me know if you agree or disagree and let me know your thoughts on Taratino’s latest. The easiest way I can describe it (from my review) is that it is like Blazing Saddles and Pulp Fiction had a lively, witty kid.
What is real?
What is Recall?
Does the three breasted chick show her jugs? (Yes, she does)
Is this movie any good?
Be sure and check out my review for Total Recall over on NerdRating.com.
I mean Beckinsale and Biel are in it so it has to be a 4/10 right off the bat just for those four, I mean two reasons. Only place to go is up.
Hello fellow Middle-Earth-ers? Middle-Earth-ians? Dammit….hey Hobbit fans my review for our first of three return trips to Middle-Earth is now up for your viewing pleasure. Give it a read and let me know what you though about the movie and if the changes made were welcome ones or did it seem like filler material?
Excuse me for a moment………gotta wait for this to go away……
Look, Zack Snyder gets a lot of shit and a lot of it is not deserved. I love how everyone absolutely loves 300 but says that Snyder is a shitty director. Let’s face it, he has only tripped up once in his directorial career. The Dawn of the Dead remake was good, 300 was great and Watchmen proved that the “unfilmable” graphic novel could be made into a great movie. So I can forgive him for Sucker Punch (which I never thought was as bad as people said). But I digress.
Man of Steel trailer. Now haters are always going to try to nitpick every single thing but I’ll be damned if this trailer isn’t beautiful and get a whole lot accomplished in two and a half minutes.
First off, Henry Cavill (in costume) is fu**ing Superman. I have always liked the new costume because of the New 52 look to it. At the halfway point in the trailer when he leaves the fortress and flies up (who did this music BTW, amazing) into the sky it was over. This movie should be on every nerd’s must watch list.
Second, we only get a quick glimpse of Michael Shannon’s Zod but he certainly has the right look and it appears that Supes will be fighting an interstellar force by the end of the preview. I am seeing a whole lot of Mark Waid’s Birthright story here and that is a great thing.
The entire first part of the preview is Ma and Pa (mostly Ma) giving Clark advice. We don’t see a whole lot of Amy Adam’s Lois but there is plenty of time left before the June release date to show her off more. This trailer needed to hit all the right notes especially being shown in front of The Hobbit this weekend because a very large audience is going to be watching.
Bring your doubts, your Zack Snyder hate. I will be waiting on June 14 when this movie turns out to be the Superman movie this generation has been waiting on.
The teaser for Star Trek Into Darkness is here and I am more than a little happy in my pants. It is only a minute or so long but sets up Benedict Cumberbatch’s (still unconfirmed) character some quality talk time with us ,the viewer, so we can get an idea just how pissed he will be. My bet is still on Gary Mitchell.
Alice Eve is also featured in a few scenes and appears to be a new love interest for Kirk and has an odd resemblance to Elizabeth Dehner played by Sally Kellerman in the original series episode “Where No Man Has Gone Before” with Mitchell. It seems like all the pieces are falling into place.
The real surprise comes from the Japanese version of the trailer which has about 10 extra seconds of footage at the end along with a different Cumberbatch line. Take a look at it real quick and we’ll discuss.
Yeah did you see what I was talking about? If not, here you go.
Looks familiar right? What do you think is going on? Do you think Cumberbatch is still playing Gary Mitchell or does this scene go into Khan territory? It could be Abrams trying to throw us off and the other hand isn’t even Kirk’s. Too many questions still abound.
Damn you Abrams. Answer me!!!
Dane DeHaan is going from playing a crazy poor kid to a crazy rich kid. For those of you that have yet to watch him in Chronicle then you should really do yourself a favor and see it. He easily stole that movie and his performance should give you a glimpse of how great he should be as Harry Osborn.
So far the casting for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been good but there is still that lingering rumor of Jamie Foxx playing Electro out there.
So it appears Jamie Foxx has confirmed that he will in fact be playing Electro. Here is a direct quote from the Oscar winner (I still roll my eyes when I type that)
”a genius electrician-type person and he gets the short end of the stick from the whole world… The next thing you know, he turns it on.”
Electrician-type person….dude. I am so looking forward to Django Unchained but you have got some work to do on getting people to believe in Electro.
Well this is….interesting.
The new Man of Steel poster went online yesterday and it certainly adds more questions to the movie and that’s a good thing. I am glad that I don’t know a lot about this movie yet. Leave it to Christopher Nolan to be the only guy in Hollywood that can still keep some things secret (at least longer than most can). Now let’s just hope that Zack Snyder can actually have Superman you know….fight stuff.
You have to admit that Henry Cavill sure does look the part. Where Brandon Routh looked like a modern Christopher Reeve playing Superman, Cavill seems to give the character a different edge. So far, I like.
Well that certainly looks bleak. Give Sherlock a leather jacket and he goes batshit crazy.
Hey look! It’s the first poster for Star Trek Into Darkness and London appears to have gone through some remodeling. Benedict Cumberbatch’s bad guy role takes center stage in this really well done poster (yes TDKR is obviously the basis for this). It has not been officially said yet but there is every indication that TV’s Sherlock (the good one, not that shit show on CBS) will be playing Gary Mitchell, made famous from the original series episode “Where No Man Has Gone Before” in which a Starfleet officer close to Kirk comes into God-like powers and gets on the crazy train.
I am excited.
