Hey, It’s The New Man Of Steel Trailer. Let’s Have A Look.

Excuse me for a moment………gotta wait for this to go away……

Look, Zack Snyder gets a lot of shit and a lot of it is not deserved. I love how everyone absolutely loves 300 but says that Snyder is a shitty director. Let’s face it, he has only tripped up once in his directorial career. The Dawn of the Dead remake was good, 300 was great and Watchmen proved that the “unfilmable” graphic novel could be made into a great movie. So I can forgive him for Sucker Punch (which I never thought was as bad as people said). But I digress.

Man of Steel trailer. Now haters are always going to try to nitpick every single thing but I’ll be damned if this trailer isn’t beautiful and get a whole lot accomplished in two and a half minutes.

First off, Henry Cavill (in costume) is fu**ing Superman. I have always liked the new costume because of the New 52 look to it. At the halfway point in the trailer when he leaves the fortress and flies up (who did this music BTW, amazing) into the sky it was over. This movie should be on every nerd’s must watch list.

Second, we only get a quick glimpse of Michael Shannon’s Zod but he certainly has the right look and it appears that Supes will be fighting an interstellar force by the end of the preview. I am seeing a whole lot of Mark Waid’s Birthright story here and that is a great thing.

The entire first part of the preview is Ma and Pa (mostly Ma) giving Clark advice. We don’t see a whole lot of Amy Adam’s Lois but there is plenty of time left before the June release date to show her off more. This trailer needed to hit all the right notes especially being shown in front of The Hobbit this weekend because a very large audience is going to be watching.

Bring your doubts, your Zack Snyder hate. I will be waiting on June 14 when this movie turns out to be the Superman movie this generation has been waiting on.

Man-of-Steel-poster2

Well this is….interesting.

The new Man of Steel poster went online yesterday and it certainly adds more questions to the movie and that’s a good thing. I am glad that I don’t know a lot about this movie yet. Leave it to Christopher Nolan to be the only guy in Hollywood that can still keep some things secret (at least longer than most can). Now let’s just hope that Zack Snyder can actually have Superman you know….fight stuff.

You have to admit that Henry Cavill sure does look the part. Where Brandon Routh looked like a modern Christopher Reeve playing Superman, Cavill seems to give the character a different edge. So far, I like.

Scott Snyder To Write New Superman Title In 2013!!

Ok….breathe man breathe. You can do this.

DC has announced today that Scott Snyder will be writing a new Superman title to begin in 2013…..with Jim Lee drawing it no less!!

Now if you know me then you know that I am currently writing this while hiding a raging nerd boner. Snyder is by far the best writer in comics today and his run on Detective Comics and currently on Batman are some of the best stories the character has seen in his 70 year history. I have always wondered what his take on The Man of Steel would be like and I will finally get my wish next year.

Scott Snyder had this to say when the news was announced:

“I’ve loved Superman since I was a kid, and to be working on him now, with the great Jim Lee, is simply too thrilling for words. It’s a dream come true for me on every front,” Snyder said. “I don’t want to give too much away, so I’ll just say it’s the Superman story I’d write if I only ever got one chance to write the character. It’s an exploration of everything I love and am fascinated by about him. Like Court of Owls for Batman, it’s a character piece for Clark – it’s going to challenge him to his core. And it’s definitely epic in scope, with huge action and drama – the biggest and most earth shaking action I’ve ever done. Can’t wait to see what you all think of it. Couldn’t be more grateful or excited to get the chance to make this one!”

And to add on top of that amazing metric sh** ton of awesome is that Jim Lee will be drawing the comic?! It’s like DC is in my head and rooting around for all the dream projects I want to happen.

P.S. If you don’t know me, my entire forearm is a Jim Lee Superman tattoo. So hopefully that puts a little perspective on why I am typing this blog sounding like a fool.

Pull List 8/29/12

Green Lantern Annual #1- 9.0

Justice League #12- 8.5

Before Watchmen: Minutemen #3- 9.5

Aquaman #12- 8.5

Winter Soldier #9- 8.0

X-O Manowar #4- 7.5

Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe #4- 7.0

!!!SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

This was a great week for what I read. A whole lot of big happenings and an almost perfect issue!!

The Green Lantern Annual released this week and all I can say is that Geoff Johns has some balls. With all he has done with the Green Lantern universe including: bringing Hal Jordan back, Blackest Night and Brightest Day, he can still construct stories that make you go holy s***. This issue is insane. As in like Hal and Sinestro die. Now we all knew Hal would be going that way since the prophecy that was revealed in Green Lantern #12 and the fact that we knew we would be getting a new Lantern with the #0 issue but Sinestro biting the bullet to was a bit of a surprise. But we don’t need worry, we have a new Arabian Green Lantern coming and seeing how badass Hal is going to look in Black Lantern armor.

Justice League ended their storyline with Graves…or did they? Sure they may have defeated him and had him locked up but seeing Amanda Waller waltz in and tell Graves to write a new book about how to defeat the Justice League tells me we still have dark times ahead for the super group. Of course this was the big issue that got so much press because Superman and Wonder Woman hooked up officially. Man, Steve Trevor can’t catch a break. He almost dies trying to protect the League and Diana still ends up with Supes. Oh well, at least he gets to be in the new JLA.

Aquaman is heading towards his showdown with Manta. Manta found the source of Atlantis’ destruction and Arthur and The Others tried to stop him but one of them ended up kicking the bucket which, of course, reaffirms Aquaman’s drive to kill Manta. It was a very good penultimate issue that I hope pays off in two months after the #0 issue.

Winter Soldier is still on the search for Leo and even though you think a lot is solved by them finding Black Widow and de-brainwashing her by the time the issue ends you realize Leo is like five steps ahead of Bucky and every operative. The last page was the right way to end the issue. I hope this title can still be consistently good after Brubaker leaves.

X-O Manowar was good but had a bit of an off issue which is weird because it was the first issue where Aric has the armor the entire time. It was cool finding out that their were alien operatives still implanted on Earth even 16 centeries later when Aric arrives.

Deadpool finished killing the Marvel Universe this week and it was the weakest of the four issue series. While the first three were balls to wall straight murdering folks, the final issue had an underwhelming kill of The Punisher and a fight with The Taskmaster that isn’t as good as it should be. And the ending, while completely Deadpool like, left a little to be desired.

The book of the week goes to Minutemen. It amazes me how DC has so much talent combined on these books yet Darwyn Cooke is writing AND doing the art for Minutemen and is hitting out of the park every month. This is the most human of the Before Watchmen books. Hollis Mason was the best character to tell this story through and Cooke is doing exactly what BF was intended to do which is add new layers and depth to characters. He is crafting a great back story that echos especially deep since we know how these characters have met their end so we can dissect their every decision and see how their decisions led them to what we already know. A near perfect issue.

Guess Who’s Super Banging?

Yep old Supes and Diana are the new power couple in the DC Universe. Since DC relaunched last year with their New 52, Superman has been sans his normal nookie Lois Lane but Geoff Johns apparently thinks it is about time the Man of Steel gets some Amazonian fun time. And don’t think that this will be a quickie sort of affair because according to Johns this relationship is how things are gonna be in the new DC universe for awhile.

This move honestly doesn’t bother me. Even with all the Lois and Clark history, Wonder Woman has always made for the better mate for Superman. Don’t believe me? Let’s let Brodie explain it.

Robot Chicken DC Comics Special Trailer

Robot Chicken has squeezed all they can out of Star Wars with three hilarious specials and now Seth Green and company are turning their attention to the DC Comics universe. It’s good to see that Aquaman will always get a raw deal no matter what is going on. I have to admit that I did laugh quite hardily at the bat signal being robot humped. Let’s face it anything being robot humped is funny.

The Robot Chicken DC Comics Special airs September 9. Set your DVR’s accordingly.

Ben Affleck In Talks To Direct The Justice League Movie…..Yeah.

Alright first things first. I will probably be the only internet blogger to not crap all over this news. Mostly because I think Ben Affleck has gotten a bit of a raw deal from fans for his shi**y movies. Guess what? All big stars make shi**y movies. Why Affleck gets so much grief over it boggles my mind. Ok enough rant.

Apparently Warner is high up on getting the Oscar winner to direct the superhero teamup so much that he is the only director that has been sent a copy of the script written by the upcoming Ganster Squad scribe Will Bealls. And with rumors that Warner wants to have the flick ready for summer 2015 they are going to have to step this process into overdrive once they finally do get a director.

If anyone has seen Affleck’s previous two films he has directed, Gone Baby Gone and The Town, then you should know that he is very good at his craft. He seems to be Warner’s go to guy because he was also offered the director’s chair earlier in the year on thier big screen version of Stephen King’s The Stand. Say what you want about the decision if he gets the job but at least Warner can tout the movie is directed by an Oscar winner. The Avengers didn’t even have that.

Pull List 7/25- 8/1

I’m falling too far behind on my reading! My apologies guys!! My addiction has grabbed hold of me again and I thought I had shook it. It’s a dangerous thing. It’s called Skyrim. I hope all of you forgive me for the lateness of this due to this wonderful addiction.

A lot of books to go through so we’re just going with scores and favorites at the end.

Books for 8/1

The Dark Knight #11- 8.5

Batman, Inc. #3- 8.0

Winter Soldier #8- 7.5

The Ultimates #13- 9.0

Before Watchmen: Comedian #2- 8.0

All-Star Western #11- 7.5

Green Lantern #11- 8.5

Aquaman #11- 8.0

Books for 8/8

Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe #1- 9.0

Hawkeye #1- 8.5

Detective Comics #12- (Main Story-6.0, Extra Story- 8.0)

Action Comics #12- 7.5

Before Watchmen: Nite Owl #2- 8.5

Swamp Thing #12- 8.5

Animal Man #12- 8.0

If I had to pick a top three of books it would have to be The Ultimates which features Cap finally returning ang kicking all kinds of ass, Deadpool in the beginning of a great series and the new Hawkeye series which is taking a different approach to the hero story and the art looks like Batman: Year One which is always a good thing.

For some reason, I just don’t know why, but Action Comics has not been clicking with me lately. I should love it. It’s Grant Morrison writing Superman but it just seems like he’s writing the character just to do it. I don’t feel any passion for it like with his run on Batman. He is leaving after issue 16 so let’s hope he has a big send off planned and a new writer can keep going up.

Rotworld got off to a great start with Animal Man and Swamp Thing heading down into the heart of the rot. Swamp Thing ended up being a bit better but just because the Animal Man issue was more of a setup. And the end of Swampy is truly a whoah moment.

Till next week….or next time depending on how well I keep up (sorry!)

The Dark Knight Returns Gets A Trailer. I Just Peed A Little.

We have already seen The Dark Knight rise this year, now it’s time to watch him return. The first trailer has been released for the DC animated feature based on one of the greatest comics stories ever written: The Dark Knight Returns. Telling the story of a long retired Batman who is coaxed out of the shadows by the decaying, dying Gotham around him, Frank Miller managed to encompass almost the entire Bat-verse in their twilight years and show that the world will always need a Batman.

It’s a great thing DC is breaking this up into two parts because the story truly is massive and should be given the proper time. By the look of this preview it looks like they staying pretty true to the source material and the voice cast, as with almost all DC animated releases, sounds top notch. I am loving the Peter Weller take on Batman from the little I heard. And if you have read the graphic novel (which should be a requirement of any Bat fan) then you know that the second half should be the real deal with The Joker returning and Batman having his final battle with Superman.

I just pray DC doesn’t do The Dark Knight Strikes Again. As great as TDKR is TDKSA is bad. Bad Bad.

Man Of Steel Gets Teased

If you have seen The Dark Knight Rises in the past two days you probably got the first teaser for next summer’s Man of Steel. Now I liked the teaser most likely because I am a huge Superman fanboy and I am glad they didn’t show a lot of footage yet. We have a year to go so why blow your load now?

While I saw it in theaters, I was happy to have Kevin Costner doing the voiceover as Pa Kent but today learned that there are two versions of the trailer floating out there and it contains Russell Crowe as Jor-El giving a different speech to Clark. Both are great and I can already see the influence of the Superman: Birthright story in the preview.

Man of Steel opens next summer.
